Hello Record Boy:

Here are a couple of albums I have in my collection that I think haven't gotten enough attention:

1. "The Amazing Bud Powell" - Bud Powell

Don't know if this is still in release or not. I have it in vinyl. It is a recording session where Bud Powell (pianist) plays versions of about 3 songs, including "A Night In Tunisia." It's interesting to hear him vary the song from take to take, so that you can see how a recording evolves. The recording is somewhat raw - you can hear Bud kind of moaning in the background. I'm told that he was not quite right in the head.

2. "La Pistola y La Corazon" - Los Lobos

This was released about 6 years ago. It is a completely acoustic Spanish-language recording of some Mexican standards. Mostly folk songs, things like that. Even though I do not understand every word, the musicianship is what's wonderful about this album. These guys can play. This is one of my all-time favorite albums.
